Despite all of Chelsea’s success over the last decade and a half, they have always been heavily criticised for their treatment of their academy graduates.
The last player to emerge from their own ranks and forge a first team career at Stamford Bridge is the now departed John Terry, who made his debut in 1998 – clearly something needs to change.
One young player who looked as if he was ready to make the step up as a regular was Kurt Zouma before his long-term injury stunted his progression. Ever since returning to fitness, largely down to the form of Antonio Conte’s regular’s at the back – Zouma has failed to break into the side once more.
With that in mind the Frenchman is being linked with a loan away from Stamford Bridge after the arrival of Antonio Rudiger from Roma, with Premier League rivals Stoke and West Brom reportedly the front-runners.
With that in mind, the news that the Blues are yet again shipping a player full of potential out on loan has not washed very well with fans on Twitter…
