David Luiz has struggled to adapt to life at the Emirates Stadium so far since joining from Chelsea.
He has played five games in the Premier League for the Gunners, and they have conceded 10 goals in those matches. The 32-year-old has failed to strike up an instant connection with Sokratis, and he can be fortunate that the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have done him a favour by scoring enough at the other end.
Paul Merson, though, is clearly not put off by his disappointing performances to date. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Instead, the former Gunners midfielder has said that he believes Unai Emery should give the 56-time Brazil international the captain’s armband, despite him potentially having a nightmare match every now and again.
He said: “David Luiz has got to be captain, he’s a serial winner. People have a go at him because one week he’ll be a 2/10 and the next a 9/10, but he’s going to play every week.”
