Arsenal fans on Twitter have been ripping into possibly the only remaining candidate left to fill the technical director role, current Head of Youth Scouting Steve Morrow.
It was reported by Football.London that the Gunners had created a three-man shortlist to fill the huge role and now that Monchi and Marc Overmars have committed their futures elsewhere, Morrow remains the only one on the list available.
You can see why supporters of the north London club have felt so aggrieved about this disappointing news, when you consider how glamourless an option the 48-year-old is.
He does know the club well, having played and worked in red after his retirement, but the Gunners are by far the biggest club he’s been involved with in his football career and a step up to this massive role would perhaps be one too big for him.
It’s for these reasons that Arsenal fans have reacted in such a way, satirically referring to the Northern Irishman as “the new Monchi,” after the club’s original first choice for the role, while stating their bemusement and just how “underwhelming” his appointment would be.
