As revealed by Danish outlet BT in an exclusive interview with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the Southampton star has decided to hire super-agent Pini Zahavi.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the former Bayern Munich man has opted to part ways with his previous agent, Søren Lerby.
His reasons for doing so remain unclear, although the timing of the news is particularly intriguing.
The Denmark international’s contract at St Mary’s expires in June, and he is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
Tottenham are believed to be eyeing him up ahead of the summer transfer window according to Sky Sports, while Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are also sniffing around his services as revealed by the same source.
Hojbjerg is Southampton’s captain, and has made 25 Premier League starts for the Saints this season.
Following in Wilfried Zaha’s footsteps
One man who presumably isn’t very popular at St Mary’s is Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.
The Ivorian has been involved in beef with James Ward-Prowse on more than one occasion, poking the midfielder in the eye when Southampton beat the Eagles 2-0 at Selhurst Park recently, while the Saints academy graduate also got the forward sent off at St Mary’s last term.
However, Hojbjerg is following his lead by hiring Zahavi as his agent, which is exactly what Zaha did.
Premier League Inflation: You won’t believe how much these famous transfers would cost today…
What piece of significant information do we already know about the Crystal Palace star? Well, it was heavily documented that the former Manchester United man wanted to leave Selhurst Park back in the summer, handing in a failed transfer request before appointing Zahavi, who The Guardian state is trying to help the attacker secure a move away.
Now, we are by no means saying that Hojbjerg has also hired Zahavi for similar reasons.
However, it is interesting to see the Dane swap agents given his contract situation and the interest in his services.
